The township of Pooncarie is set on the banks of the Darling River, where agricultural heritage relied on river transport for everything in this remote settlement established by Europeans during the 1840s when they took up illegal grazing runs on crown land. With a long and proud history, the Pooncarie Racing Club was established in 1891. The annual Pooncarie Cup meeting is being held on Saturday the 5th of October, 2019 and is an enjoyable and unique outback experience of country horse racing.
